First doctoral commandment: know thy resources

Use the Capella resources. Know them. Know how to use them. Use them.

I want to call out just two of them to remind all learners of some of what they can find on iGuide.

On the Capella Library home page is a link to a series of helpful tutorials and guides, with one section specifically focusing on resources for the doctoral learners. If you can take the time to review only one of them, put the Library Research Handbook at the top of your list. If you are about to take your comprehensive examination, this is a good time to refresh your memory to help make your research as efficient and effective as possible.

A great resource to help you manage your bibliographic information is RefWorks, also a link on the library home page. While you are on the library home page, look at some of the other helpful resources there. And, if you have never read a dissertation, there is no better time than now to read one. Just follow the links from the home page.

Another especially rich site is the Online Writing Center. The first stop should be at the Personal Writing Assessment tool. What I especially like is that each question is accompanied by helpful resources that cover writing issues from APA to punctuation. The second stop should be the tutorial on academic honesty.  There you will find information ranging from a discussion of what plagiarism is to tips on how to take notes so that your information sources are clear.
