Feeling burned out?

by | June 15, 2011

Have you been in dissertation for longer than you had thought? Are you still working on getting your proposal just right so that you can move on? Or maybe wondering if you really will finish your dissertation?

A dissertation is a process at any doctoral-granting institution. The iterative nature of a dissertation can be more than frustrating for some, and way beyond frustrating for others.

Capella offers several resources that might help you regain or maintain your motivation during the dissertation process. One is the time management information under iGuide > Resources > Time Management. A couple of the helpful modules under that are: Identify Priorities (the values and priorities card sort activity can be kind of sobering for some) and Addressing Challenges and Finding Support (the section on staying motivated has some great ideas).

A second area that addresses motivation is under Schools and Programs > Writing Program. If you click on the Writing Process link, you will see that two modules on the right might be helpful: Beating Writer’s Block and Maintaining Motivation.

Maybe these resources will work for you. But, if you really are concerned about whether you will be able to complete your dissertation, then you should schedule a conference with your academic advisor to talk about options.
