
How am I “re-envisioning” the 21st Century PhD?
In October 1999, a small committee of doctoral educators convened in Seattle, Washington to re-examine the “essence” of the Ph.D. The committee’s review included examining length and composition of requirements; the preparation of Ph.D.s for a variety of professional options; and further questioning how the Academy might increase the diversity of doctoral students who complete the Ph.D. From that meeting launched the national conference on “Re-envisioning the Ph.D.” (See for more: http://www.grad.washington.edu/envision/index.html) READ MORE
