 Awards & Accreditations

2009 Learning Impact Award from IMS Global Learning
Consortium
This year, Capella received the highest honor—platinum level—at the 2009 Learning Impact Conference in Barcelona. The IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS GLC) recognized Capella’s submission, “Leading the Definition of Quality Online Education for Adults with a Learning and Careers Outcomes Infrastructure,” for exemplifying outstanding efforts in improving education through the use of technology. Capella was also recognized by IMS GLC as the Best Outcomes-based Learning Solution.

3 Counseling programs accredited by CACREP
Capella University now offers 3 master’s degree programs in counseling that are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP): Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and School Counseling. CACREP accreditation provides recognition that the program has been evaluated extensively and meets standards set by and for the profession, and, in some cases, can result in the waiving of certain supervised experience licensure requirements.

2009 Summer Commencement
On Aug. 7 and 8, more than 500 of learners and alumni, together with their friends, family, faculty and staff, celebrated the ultimate Capella milestone—commencement—in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The weekend honored more than 2,000 graduates from all degree levels, including those present for the ceremonies and those unable to attend. The ceremonies were broadcast around the world via live webcast.

Capella University President Dr. Christopher Cassirer was also honored at the doctoral commencement ceremony, where he was officially installed as university president and presented with the University’s presidential medallion.

Dissertation Writer’s Retreats
In 2007, Capella introduced the Dissertation Writer’s Retreat—a unique, distraction-free environment where learners can spend 5 days of uninterrupted time making significant progress on their dissertation. During the retreat, learners can get 1-to-1 coaching, peer support, and important feedback and guidance.

Today, the retreats are held at various locations around the country and are now open to any doctoral student—not just Capella learners—to help doctoral learners from around the country make significant progress in a short amount of time.
