Cybersecurity Czar Candidate = Federated Identity?
Eric Chabrow recently posted an article at GovInfoSecurity suggesting that Steve Charney is a potential candidate for the position of Federal Cybersecurity Czar, a position which was recently announced by President Obama. Charney, currently of Microsoft Trustworthy Computing Office, recently spoke before the Technology and Innovation subcommittee of the House Committee on Science and Technology. He suggests a hybrid of centralized and decentralized process solutions are the right mix for securing the federal information assets. He also suggests a change in focus from the idea of sharing information to focus instead on the activity for which sharing information would be useful.
Has the time finally come for the birth of the national ID or federated identity? What impact might that have on the personal privacy of all of us and how does that balance the benefits of being able to, assuming things work as predicted, would validate online identities more easily and accurately?
