The majority of U.S. states now have data breach notification laws in force, and other states are considering legislation in the coming year. On the international stage, Canada, the United Kingdom, India and Australia have either published, or are considering, national data breach standards and laws. Other issues such as identity theft, RFID and electronic health records (EHR) are receiving even greater scrutiny from regulators.
