An interesting comment was made by Jane Lute, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Ms. Lute advocates for a more open approach to the Internet and not that of the unlawful wild west– but a place of knowledge and safety.
In thinking about how the Internet started and has grown from a military exercise to one of collaboration, she may, very well, be correct. And we may need to rethink how we view the Internet, as it will be a more integrated part of our lives in the future.
What do you think?

I was present at that speech and to be honest I was not impressed. I didn’t hear anything on what DHS is doing to get in front of the problem with software and hardware manufactures that unethically race against each other to push out technology onto the internet community. The Secretary said nothing about future plans, current actions, or even a vision. Instead, it was more of “it is all our problem and we must correct it.” If there is no news on the DHS front on information security, there is no sense in having government representatives speak at BH or any other conference.
