Selection process

  • The Capella selection committee will consist of academic faculty and administrators in the information assurance and security field. Decisions made by the selection committee are final and not subject to appeal.
  • Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on the content, clarity, and writing of their responses to five questions regarding why they are pursuing a degree specializing in Information Assurance and Security, a discussion of personal strengths, educational and life experience, why they chose Capella, and one of their professional accomplishments. (See Scholarship Essay Questions for details.) Each answer should be written as it relates to the recipient’s success in an IAS program.
  • The 10 scholarship awards will be distributed by degree program as follows: 4 new BS learners and 2 current BS learners, 2 new MS learners and 1 current MS learner, and 1 new or current PhD learner.

The scholarship awards will be distributed evenly over four consecutive quarters ($1,250 per quarter) beginning in July 2009.

Should an award winner not be enrolled in July 2009 or any of the subsequent quarters1, the scholarship for those quarters shall be forfeited. Scholarship awards will be applied directly to each recipient’s quarterly tuition.
