Do You Care Where Your Data Is?
In his blog, Schneier on Security, Bruce Schneier shares his view on unfair and deceptive trade practices involving the unexpected use of personal data entered and stored on Web sites belonging to some organizations.
In my experience, individuals have often indicated a concern with personal privacy and having control over their personal information. Yet, these same individuals frequent Web sites belonging to organizations that are well known for their voracious appetite for data to mine. This suggests that users are either uneducated or they have placed a higher value on ease of use and convenience.
What role, if any, does the information security professional play in protecting the privacy of the subject/data that they are charged with securing. Is privacy an outdated concept and no longer worthy of time and effort?
