So just when you thought Facebook was only for viewing baby pictures and following the everyday activity of friends and family, one of your Capella Librarians stumbles across a useful application. The application is called CiteMe and is pretty slick to use, coming from www.worldcat.org. But, like all citation generators, you need to verify with your APA manual if the citation is 100% correct.

In order to use CiteMe through Facebook you’ll need to have a Facebook account. Once you have an account you can search for the CiteMe application and use it to find and generate citations along with WorldCat.org. I found this brief video from SELCOtv (a Minnesota Library cooperative’s video feed) helpful for learning how to use CiteMe: SELCOtv 68 Using Facebook’s CiteMe application.

Here are some pictures showing how to access this application in Facebook:

1) Use the search box in the upper right-hand side of Facebook to search citeme (no spaces):

2) You might need to next click on the Applications link to the left if CiteMe (as shown below) isn’t included in your results. Then click View Application:

3) When you reach the CiteMe application information page, then just click Go to Application to begin using:

Click Articles, Books and More (your one-stop-shop for all of the Capella subscribed databases)

Scroll down the alphabetical list of databases until you see Credo Reference. Underneath the database link is the link to the User Guide. Click to open!

Earlier this year Robin blogged about how Credo Reference (along with Gale Virtual Reference Library) are helpful in gathering background information. Credo includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, biographies, quotations, and bilingual dictionaries. Check out her blog post for more information!

CQ Researcher publishes 44 unbiased, heavily researched reports each year on timely and often controversial issues relating to health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Reports are written by “seasoned” journalists and include a link to the author’s brief biography.

Note: CQ Researcher is not a peer reviewed journal.

CQ Researcher is a great source for undergraduates, but can also be useful for assignments not requiring peer reviewed articles or for finding background information on a topic that is considered controversial.

Have you every wondered when you are “done” with your Literature Review? Have I found everything? Well there are a couple of resources on the Library’s Guides & Tutorials page that can help.

First our Research Guides. We have developed Research Guides for each of the Schools within Capella: Education, Human Services, Psychology, Business and Technology. Have you checked all of the recommended databases in the Resource Guide for your school? That is one way to be certain you are doing a comprehensive Literature Review.

Also a great way to find other resources for your Literature Review is to check the references on the articles you have already located. This is sometimes called Bibliography “mining” or Cited Reference searching. When you start to see the same resources over and over again, it is probably a good indication that you have done a comprehensive search. The Library has developed a guide called Bibliography Mining and Cited Reference Searching that explains this process in more detail. If you have never searched this way before, try it, I think you will find it very productive.

Stuck in your Literature Review or any assignment? Need some keyword or database suggestions? Don’t forget to take advantage of the resources available to you here at Capella - Ask-a-Librarian!
