Project Success…or Failure?
What is project success?
Ask any project manager and they will tell you that project success is meeting the PMI’s triple constraint factors of cost, time, and scope. When pushed, they also agree that the project outcome should be of high quality and meet stakeholder expectations. But very often, meeting the agreed upon parameters of cost, time, and scope are mentioned as the primary success factors. According to the PMBOK® Guide, high quality projects deliver the required product, service or result within scope, on time, and within budget (PMI, 2004, pg. 8). Sounds like all bases are covered and if a project meets all of these parameters, the outcome should be successful.
