Capella’s IRB (Institutional Review Board) is making a change to promote your timely completion of the IRB process and help you keep your dissertation on track. A procedural change will take effect on July 13, 2009 to help you better manage your IRB application. There will now be time limits on finishing submissions that are incomplete or deferred, and for applications that receive conditional approval. If your application requires further information or modifications after the original submission, this new procedure will help you stay on track to complete it.
Summary of changes
Incomplete submissions: The IRB Office notifies researchers if an application is incomplete or missing required documents. Once notified, the researcher has 30 calendar days to meet the requirements. If necessary, the researcher can request one extension of 30 additional calendar days to complete the submission. This is done by submitting an Extension Request Form.
If the study is incomplete and the researcher has not submitted an extension request within the first 30 days, the study will be withdrawn and the researcher will need to create a new submission on IRBNet.
Studies deferred for revisions: Once a study has been deferred for minor or major revisions, the researcher has 60 calendar days to complete the requested revisions. If necessary, the researcher can request one extension of 60 additional calendar days to complete the requested revisions by submitting an Extension Request Form.
If the revisions are not completed and the researcher has not submitted an extension within the first 60 days, the IRB application will be withdrawn and the researcher will need to create a new submission on IRBNet.
Studies approved with stipulations (formerly known as conditional approval): If a study has been approved with stipulations, the researcher has 60 days to meet the stipulations. If necessary, the researcher can request one extension of 60 additional calendar days to meet the stipulations by submitting an Extension Request Form.
If the stipulations are not addressed and the researcher has not submitted an extension within the first 60 days, the study will be suspended and the researcher will need to create a new submission on IRBNet.
